FCYFA hosted its 2015 1st Annual FCYFA Golf Tournament this week at Laurel Springs Country Club. The tournament was a fundraiser for the league to be able to offer scholarships for kids in the county who want to play football. Thanks to all of the teams who participanted. The Championship winning team from Sharon Springs consisted of Mark Baumbick, Lauren Mcdonald, Jason Thomas and Brooks Harter. They shot a shattering -13 under par 58 to win by one stroke!!! Great time for Great Cause.
If you have a football player who will be playing 7th or 8th grade football this season, we want to ask you to attend an informative meeting on Wednesday, April 29th at 7:00pm. The meeting will be held at the Old Atlanta Recreation Center (across from Lambert High School). 7th & 8th grade football will be specific topic of discussion.
Sharon Springs Youth Football Association is excited to announce our continued partnership with Breakout Football Camps due to their high quality and relevant staff (NFL and College players) and their focus on developing a complete athlete.
Below is the registration link and camp flyer along with details for the 2015 Breakout Football Camp at Sharon Springs.
It is with great excitement that I would like to announce that SSYFA in complete partnership with Forsyth County Youth Football Association is starting a “Select” football program for this upcoming season. The Select football program is being created for 4th – 6th Grade to provide more options for our families to consider that meet their competitive football needs. This program is the result of many years of consideration by all of the partner Associations that comprise Forsyth County Youth Football Association.
The new Select program will be structured and organized similar to Lacrosse in that we will work to align players that participate with their respective high schools. In other words, players participating in this program through SSYFA will be wearing either War Eagles or Longhorns colors. We have formed a Select Board within our SSYFA board that will operate from a common and balanced set of guiding principles and processes to manage the Select Teams for both South and Lambert.
Our teams will have the opportunity to line up and compete against many of the same local public and private high schools that regionally align to those that they will be play against in high school. As one of the premier, and most fundamentally sound youth football programs in the state of Georgia, the North Metro Football League (NMFL) and its member programs operate and compete with the highest levels of integrity and sportsmanship. As such, it presents a tremendous opportunity for our young athletes to extend their prior experiences and provide exposure to a broader set of competition that share in the same beliefs and goals of healthy growth and development.
The Select teams will play in the NMFLElite Division. This division will consist of teams that have an evaluation and selection process for determining the makeup of their respective teams. The league will consist of public and private high school feeder programs in the North Metro Atlanta area that played in the NMFL last year (eg. Johns Creek, Milton, Pinecrest, Blessed Trinity, Wesleyan, North Forsyth, Central Forsyth, Lassiter, etc.). The Select Program will be competitive but not as rigorous as D1. The NMFL Select Division will be grade-based with an age cutoff that is consistent with many of the recreational football associations in the local area.
We know there will be a lot of questions around the new Select program, as well as, the NMFL Elite Division. We will be scheduling several informational meetings to provide more details on team selection, head coaches, and league play. Please watch for dates on these informational sessions.
Please understand that SSYFA and FCYFA are completely committed to maintaining the wonderful recreational football program that has existed for many years in our county. The Rec program is the heart and soul of SSYFA football and will continue on as you have come to know and love it.
At our annual meeting in January, SSYFA President Steve Robinson (right) presented the 2014 Mobley Hill Coaching Award to David Cochran. We would like to congratulate David on this great accomplishment and thank him for his service and commitment to kids and families of our park and the entire Sharon Springs community. Good luck in 2015 David!
